The birthplace of compassion
Perhaps nothing is so poignant as watching friends experience a really tough time while having no tangible resources to jump in and make a real difference. So we become silent, maybe express some pity, hoping some similar calamity does not visit us. Yet, if we are thoughtful, we realize eventually we will find ourselves there, at the crucible of life, deeply desiring real help. This is the birth place of compassion and real empathy.
The Lord takes us to these tough places on purpose so that we realize our identity cannot be placed in temporary things. For our good, He often strips away the most important things to us which will not last, there by revealing Himself.
