We are even cynical toward strength
The struggle facing middle aged men to perform financially, win and keep love, nurture children and generally take care of the needs of the family is unprecedented in light of a quietly failing economy, a mass of male peers behaving badly, a media offering a style of manhood which is neither realistic or sustainable, as well as a very poignant shift toward marginalizing their role in society. The cynicism toward their strength and the disappointment is so great we no longer e…xpect anything from them or honor them for swimming upstream in our broken culture.
Few will admit our culture is lost when our men are lost. An elevation of the value and strength of women need not be at the expense of bestowing honor on good men who are doing all in their power to responsibly lead in every area of the family. This is not a zero-sum game. We can value both men and women for their unique giftedness and strength. In fact it is vital we value and honor them both if our families are to remain intact and our children are to grasp hold of the beliefs we hold most dear.
